I had just played a round at Rock Harbor and was hungry. Great day of golf, and now it was time to match it up with a good after-round dinner.

I had a burger in mind (as I often do) and headed to downtown Winchester’s walking mall. Slight hiccup: the burger joint was closed.

So, change of plans. I walked around to see what alternative spot would catch my eye.

Bingo! T.T. Wall’s Kitchen and Bar! The inviting outdoor seating area is reminiscent of a Parisian café, but the menu is unmistakably Southern.

As I walked through the front door, my eyes were met with decor that’s tasteful, yet whimsical: rustic hardwood floors, pressed-tin ceilings, and anthropomorphic animal art everywhere I looked. Some even seemed to be looking back at me.

Many items on the menu have creative names, and I love that. I have found it usually means the restaurant has a heart and soul, and the owners are passionate—not only about the food they serve but the full experience they give their customers.

(By the way, this concept applies to golf courses, too. I love when certain holes have names given to them by the locals. You just know nicknamed holes are either going to be quite a challenge or a lot of fun.)

I went with “Uncle Hobert’s Favorite” sandwich—honey roasted peanut butter, bacon, and bread-and-butter pickles. I was intrigued, if not a wee bit apprehensive … but who am I to doubt Uncle Hobert? The sandwich was delicious. Sweet and salty, with a tangy kick from the pickles; all the flavors blended together beautifully.

The side of baked macaroni and cheese tasted like it came straight out of a Sunday kitchen—pure Southern comfort in every bite. Sweet tea to wash it down: ice-cold perfection.

After a day at Rock Harbor, T.T. Wall’s is just what you need. Grab a table (inside or out), choose your cleverly named meal, and talk through the round—the shots that worked, the ones that almost did, and the ones that got away.
