Dear BoBirdie Readers,
When we launched BoBirdie in 2023 — through the clouds of doubt and haze of uncertainty — shined two non-negotiables: (1) to amplify the beauty, wonder and uniqueness of the Shenandoah Valley through the scientifically proven power of artful storytelling and (2) to create an inclusive space where everyone feels welcome, whether they’re here for the greens, the eats, the adventures, the spot- lights on hometown “celebs” or simply to find connection and community.
Sure, we had a five-year plan — a mix of lofty dreams, quantifiable goals and a healthy dose of “we’ll see what happens.” Truthfully, we didn’t expect to stick to the plan entirely. But here we are, two years in, the clouds are parting, the haze is lifting and we’re closer to plan than we ever imagined.
As we tee off on year three, we’re focused on growth — not just in numbers but through brand awareness and meaningful engagement with our audience. In 2024, we doubled the BoBirdie community, bringing more people into the fold through our robust social media presence, dynamic website, e-newsletter and, of course, our flagship offering, the print magazine.
We are particularly proud of the demographic diversity we’ve brought to BoBirdie — both in the stories we tell and our audience, which now comprises a 50/50 mix of men and women, golfers and non-golfers alike. One particular focus for us in 2025 is elevating our video quality with more stories, better visuals and a chance to experience the Valley through a whole new lens.
We can’t wait to share what’s ahead, and we want — no, need — you to be part of it. BoBirdie is only as strong as the people who believe in it — and, lucky for us, that includes you. So, please, keep sharing with us: ideas, tips, anecdotes, favorite finds, interesting people, vintage photos, historical narratives …
Here’s to the future of BoBirdie: the stories we’ll tell, the places we’ll go, the people we’ll meet and — most importantly — the community we’ll continue to build together.
Let’s make this our best year yet!
Yours,
Jefferson Burgess, Editor-in-Chief
